This course will provide attendees with a basic understanding of Reliability Theory and Run-Life Measures, and an overview on the Industry best practices on ESP failure nomenclature, data collection, and data analysis.
The objectives of this course are to:
- Review the Failure Nomenclature Standards for collecting and tracking ESP failure information;
- Learn how to apply the Failure Nomenclature Standards to common types of ESP failures;
- Review Reliability Theory and common run-life measures (such as Mean-Time-To-Failure, Average Run Time, Mean-Time-To-Pull, and Failure Rate);
- Learn how to assess ESP reliability based on the different measures, using examples from actual field applications; and
- Review ESP reliability data collection and analysis best practices, based on the ESP Reliability Information and Failure Tracking System (ESP-RIFTS) Joint Industry Project

Who Should Attend:
This course has been developed for engineers and other personnel who operate wells with ESP systems, and are interested in tracking ESP reliability. This includes field operators and the staff of equipment manufacturers and vendors who support them.
You Will Learn:
At the end of the course, students will:
- Understand the definition of failure, and the ESP system boundary and its primary functions;
- Be able to classify an ESP failure based on the ESP-RIFTS standards and practices, after a teardown and failure investigation has been conducted;
- Understand the basics of Reliability Theory and the different equations used to fit ESP run-life data;
- Be able to identify infant or old age mortality of an ESP system;
- Understand the most commonly used reliability and run-life measures, how to calculate and interpret them, and their advantages and pitfalls;
- Benefit from data collection and analysis lessons learned from the ESP-RIFTS JIP; and
- Know how to apply ESP failure nomenclature to the attendee’s own workflow.
